Sweet chestnut and oak woodland

“Sweet chestnut and oak woodland The largest trees in this area of the wood are all sweet chestnut (Castanea sativa), which easily outgrow neighbouring oaks (Quercus spp.) Looking northeast along the main path there appears to be a mound of grass on the left; this is actually a large patch of greater wood rush (Luzula sylvatica) an evergreen plant that colonises shady locations.
