Hyacinthoides-non-scripta-English-bluebell-owler-car-wood-moss-valley-nature-reserve-may-2020

A single English bluebell (Hyacinthoides non-scripta) caught in the early morning light at the edge of Owler Car Wood, the largest woodland within the Moss Valley Nature Reserve, Northeast Derbyshire. Bluebells are a useful indicator species, as where they exist in high concentrations it is reasonable to assume that the woodland is ancient (dating back at least 400 years).
