Hawthorn

“HawthornThis hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna) is part of a hedge forming an old field boundary. Hawthorn is a difficult tree to accurately age; their slow growth habit means they rarely reach an impressive girth. A 50 year old hedge may look similar to one that is three times the age, as hard pruning rejuvenates the tree prolonging it’s natural lifespan.
